Holding Pattern Cheat Sheet
Use this if you fly with a Garmin 430 or a glass cockpit.
Find your assigned radial on your heading indicator, then see where it falls on the images on the top of the page. ie. T = teardrop, etc. In other words, for a right hand pattern, if the radial is found on your heading indicator at the 1 o'clock position, it will be a teardrop entry.
Then, follow the directions for that type of entry. |
Have you begun working on your VOR/GPS navigational skills? This exercise is a good way to break up the boredom, and a great challenge. It will teach tracking and intercepting radials to and from a fix, and flying arcs. If you have an Avidyne or Garmin G1000 panel, try flying it with just a bearing needle set to a fix.
If you are scheduled for our accelerated instrument course and need something to do while you get your ten hours of hood time, try flying the old classics Pattern A and Pattern C. |
