7 Day Instrument Course
$3495
In our 7 day instrument course we will spend 8 hours a day immersed in the intricacies
of IFR flight. We don't provide you with just enough training to pass the checkride, but teach you how to use the latest technology to be comfortable in a real world IFR situation. Expect to fly a wide variety of approaches; DME arcs, RNAV, and localizer back courses will be familiar to you by the time your training is complete. Our iGATE advanced ATD is an indespensible tool that will enable you to learn more efficiently and effectively, allowing you to experience various emergency flight scenarios, while learning to analyze and manage these situations, even while flying approaches at airports all over the country. Up to 20 hours can be logged on the iGATE, as well as one precision and one non-precision approach on your checkride. We will utilize your aircraft (or ours for the hourly rate) for the remaining 10 hours and remainder of checkride.

Prerequisites:
FAA written test passed in previous 24 months
10 hours of simulated or actual instrument time in airplane
47 hours of PIC cross country time

customers have to say

Please keep in mind that the more preparation a student does prior to arriving for the course, the more likely the course can be completed in 7 days, sometimes even less.

Non U.S. Residents

Please go to https://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov/ and sign up for a new student account. Complete a training request, and select Glass Cockpit Aviation as the provider. Be sure to contact us so that we know to expect a training request from you.

Course includes:
Unlimited training in advanced ATD (during normal work hours)
Training in your aircraft (or ours)
Ground review to ensure you have an excellent understanding of the IFR system
A visit to the air traffic control tower and radar facility to help you with your understanding of the IFR infrastructure
(this visit is a highlight of the course, as Boise has a fantastic group of controllers who will work hard to get you the best training experience possible)

Study Materials
There's a lot of great information here, the more you understand before arriving, the easier the course will be for you and the better your potential for success. We will not have time to cover every aspect of IFR flight, so you will be expected to be as prepared as possible before you arrived. If you need to complete the written test here, plan to arrive a day sooner to fit this into the schedule. We also recommend that you pick up a copy of the IFR "Oral Exam Guide" at a local pilot shop. This books has all the questions and answers that you may expect to encounter on you checkride. For the written exam, we recommend King Schools test prep videos. For additional material, order a copy of Rod Machado's new IFR textbook.

What to bring:
• A view limiting device (hood or foggles)
• Jeppessen IFR approach charts will be provided
• Logbook, medical and pilot's license
• Headset
• Kneeboard
• Highlighter
• Notebook computer (not required, but very helpful, we have a wireless network that is available)

• Written test results, if applicable
• Aircraft Logbooks (If you bring your own aircraft)
• Flight Computer & Plotter, or tools that you use for flight planning (Instrument Rating only)
Most of you have probably not used an E6B or a plotter since you were a student pilot. Rather than relearn these tools, we recommend that you download Seattle Avionics' Voyager Free Flight flight planning software. It is free and has a great selection of tools for planning and obtaining weather and NOTAMS. And yes, you can use it to plan your sample flight for your checkride. We encourage you to use it for all your flight planning, VFR and IFR, and become familiar with its functions prior to arriving for your training. It is important that you understand the basic concepts of flight planning such as calculating ground speed, wind correction, route planning, etc., but it is also important that you understand how to use the latest planning tools so that you can quickly plan your route and examine alternatives.

U.S. citizens wishing to complete training for a new or additional certificate or rating in an aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds must present the flight school or flight instructor with evidence of U.S. citizenship. Evidence must be shown by one of the following:

Rental Car
Having your own transportation isn't required, but keep in mind that you will have more time for studying and seeing the local area if you rent one. Shuttle services are available, but may require extra planning and limit your options for meals. Alamo seems to have the best rates, but check around.
